Is Your Teen Actually Ready to Launch?

*Posted by Elizabeth Sorensen | Made for More Coaching and retreats*

You've done everything right. You've raised a good kid one who has goals, a solid head on their shoulders, and (most days) decent judgment. High school has wrapped up, and the next big chapter is right around the corner. So why does it feel like something's missing?

Because something is. And it's not their fault or yours. The gap between high school and adult life is real, and it's wider than anyone talks about. Good grades, AP classes, and college essays don't teach a teenager how to recover from failure without spiraling. They don't teach them how to navigate conflict with a roommate, manage money when no one's watching, or know who they are when the structure disappears. That's what Prepare to Launch is here for.

What Is Prepare to Launch? Prepare to Launch is a 12-week coaching program designed specifically for young adults ages 16 to 19 who are stepping into the next chapter of their lives whether that's college, a job, a gap year, or independent living.

It's not therapy. It's not tutoring. It's practical, emotional, and mental preparation for what adult life actually looks like taught by a coach instead of a parent, which (let's be honest) makes all the difference. The program is built around six pillars that spell out LAUNCH:- L -Life Skills: The everyday stuff no one teaches budgeting, cooking, scheduling, doing laundry, and having hard conversations without shutting down or blowing up. A- Awareness: Learning to recognize emotions, understand what triggers them, and respond instead of react. U-Understanding: Knowing your own values, making decisions under pressure, and building relationships that are actually healthy. N- Nutrition & Movement: Building habits around food, sleep, and movement that survive without a parent stocking the fridge and driving them to practice. C- Confidence: Developing an identity that holds up when things get hard how to handle failure, ask for help, and keep going. H- Habits: The daily routines sleep, stress management, boundaries that either support or sink them when real life hits.

Two Ways to Join **Group Coaching (12 weeks)** A small cohort of 6-10 teens meets weekly for 75-minute sessions. The peer dynamic is part of the magic: teens hear things differently from each other than they ever do from a parent. Includes the Prepare to Launch workbook and two parent check-ins.

**1:1 Private Coaching (12 weeks)** Weekly 50-minute sessions built around your teen's specific situation, with voice and text support between sessions and three parent check-ins. Best for teens who need privacy or have a unique path ahead of them.

Investment starts at $1,200 for group coaching and $2,800 for private. Payment plans are available.

Want to dip a toe in first? The Intro Workshop is a single 90-minute group for $97. A great way to let your teen experience what coaching feels like before committing.

Why a Coach? Not Just More Parenting? Because you've already been parenting beautifully, and there are things they simply won't hear from you no matter how well you say them. A coach holds space differently. There's no history, no emotion, no "because I said so" just a trusted adult in their corner who challenges them, listens to them, and holds them accountable.

Prepare to Launch is the coaching layer built alongside the it's siter company, Made for More Mental Health and Counseling. Coaching is practical, skills-based, and can be connected to deeper support, like a licensed professional, if something surfaces that needs more than a coach.

For LDS Families: Is Your Son or Daughter Ready to Launch Really?

*A note for Latter-day Saint parents navigating mission prep, college, temple marriage and everything in between.*

The next year or two in your home might look like this: a mission call on the kitchen table, seminary graduation, packing luggage for the MTC or a college dorm, a cultural hall reception and more emotions than anyone has words for. You've raised them well. You've taken them to church, talked about choices, prayed over them, and watched them grow into someone with real faith and real potential. And you still wonder ” are they actually ready for what's waiting?18 or 24 months away from home. Living with a companion they didn't choose. Rejection and hard conversations, every single day. Caring for their body, their mind, and their spirit when no one is there to remind them. And then coming home and figuring out who they are after.

Most young adults even strong, faithful ones were never taught the inner skills that mission life (and adult life) demands. Not because anyone failed them. Because these aren't things that get taught in a classroom or a Sunday lesson. That's what Prepare to Launch is for.

*What Is Prepare to Launch? A 12-week coaching program for young adults ages 16 to 19 that builds the mental, emotional, physical, and practical readiness they'll need for a mission, for college, for work, and for the adult years ahead. This program is faith-friendly and built with Latter-day Saint families in mind. It honors your beliefs and values. It doesn't replace the spiritual preparation you and your bishop are already doing- it's the practical and emotional layer that runs alongside it. The program is built around six pillars that spell LAUNCH: L-Life Skills: Money, cooking, laundry, scheduling, hard conversations, the things they'll need on day one of a mission or in their first apartment. A- Awareness: Recognizing emotions, understanding what triggers them, and learning to respond to a frustrating companion or difficult day without shutting down. U- Understanding: Knowing their values, making decisions under pressure, building healthy relationships and appropriate boundaries. N-Nutrition & Movement: Habits around food, sleep, and movement that survive a mission schedule, dorm food, or first-apartment chaos. C-Confidence: An identity that holds up when things get hard how to handle rejection, recover from failure, and ask for help without shame. H-Habits: Daily routines sleep, stress management, self-care that don't fall apart when life does.

Why This Matters for Mission-Bound Youth? A growing number of missionaries return home early and most of the time, it isn't a faith problem. It's a preparation problem. They have the desire. They have the testimony. What they're missing is practice with the inner skills that companion life, mission structure, and daily rejection require. Prepare to Launch is designed to build those skills before they go so they can serve a full mission with their feet under them, instead of struggling silently and coming home discouraged. This program also serves young adults who aren't serving a mission, or who aren't sure yet. The same pillars that prepare a missionary prepare a college student, a newlywed, a working young adult. Mission service is honored in this program never assumed.

*Two Ways to Join*

*Group Coaching (12 weeks)* A small cohort of 6-10 young adults meets weekly for 75-minute sessions. There is the option for separate young men's and young women's cohorts based on interest. The peer group is a significant part of the value young adults preparing alongside others on the same path build something together that they can't build alone. Includes the Prepare to Launch workbook and two parent check-ins.

**1:1 Private Coaching (12 weeks)** Weekly 50-minute sessions tailored to your young adult's specific path, with voice and text support between sessions and three parent check-ins. Best for those with specific pre-mission concerns, a complex transition, or who simply do better with one-on-one attention. Investment starts at $1,200 for group coaching and $2,800 for private. Payment plans are available. The Intro Workshop is $97 per family a 90-minute taste of what the program looks like before you commit.

Why a Coach? Not Just More Parenting or More Lessons? Bishops, parents, and seminary teachers each play a vital role. They can't play every role. A coach challenges, listens, and holds a young adult accountable in a way that feels distinct from a parent or a church leader and young adults tend to show up to coaching differently because of it. There's no family history in the room. There's no authority to rebel against. There's just a trusted adult asking good questions and helping them grow. Made for More is a licensed mental health practice serving Utah families. Prepare to Launch is the coaching layer alongside that clinical foundation faith-respectful, practical, and with a clear handoff if anything surfaces that needs a therapist or a bishop.
